Microblading or Permanent Eyebrow Tattooing: Which is Right for You?

debunking-top-7-eyebrow-myths

Women today have more options than the old days of just waxing, tweezing, or threading to get the perfect eyebrows. Now, you have modern options like microblading or eyebrow embroidery and permanent tattooing. With these relatively new eyebrow procedures now available, how do you know which one is right for you? Hereby are some helpful information to help you make a decision.

What is Microblading?

Manual microblading or eyebrow embroidery is a technique that uses several tiny, fine-point needles to scratch the surface of the skin and simultaneously deposit some pigment beneath it. It is an eyebrow procedure that bears much resemblance to tattooing, except that fine needles grouped together to form a blade are used to administer the pigment instead of a tattoo gun.

The realistic-looking eyebrow effect lasts for 1.5 to two years only. The pigment used is semi-permanent, and the dye particles are usually less concentrated than in the traditional tattoo.

What is Permanent Eyebrow Tattooing?

Permanent eyebrow tattooing or cosmetic tattooing has been around longer than microblading. Its process is similar in many ways to microblading, with the difference apparent in the instrument and the pigment used.

Meanwhile, cosmetic tattooing uses a handheld gun or machine to dispense the pigment or dye. The effects also fade over time, although it takes longer for cosmetic tattoos to fade. It depends largely on the individual, but a permanent eyebrow tattoo would last for three years on an average person. Also, it has the tendency to fade to a bluish hue after 12 months, sometimes requiring some touch-ups if you want to keep them.

What is the Difference Between the Two Procedures?

Aside from the slight differences in the procedure and the duration of its results, another important consideration when choosing which procedure to get is how painful it is.

Microblading is less invasive and, therefore, less painful. In addition, the brow specialist applies a topical numbing cream to the area before proceeding with the treatment. If you start feeling any discomfort at any point during the treatment, you can just ask them to apply some more numbing cream before continuing with the procedure. Permanent eyebrow tattoo treatments are moderately painful, but nowhere near the level of traditional tattooing.

Another point of comparison is the type of pigment used. As mentioned, the ink from the permanent eyebrow tattoo fades to a bluish colour over time. This is a normal reaction brought on by the natural process of oxidation. For eyebrow embroidery, exposure to the sun, regular washing, and even oily skin can make the ink fade before it has the chance to change colour.

Which Should You Choose?

Both eyebrow treatments can be effective in enhancing your facial features, and your choice would ultimately depend on your situation and preference.

If you are new to eyebrow treatments and don’t want to commit to something long-term, then natural eyebrow embroidery is perfect for you. Also, if you want to try a new look and would like to see how it goes first, then the less permanent option is better. It is also a safer option if you are constantly updated with current eyebrow trends and have the tendency to change your style along with the times. This will give you the flexibility to change the brow shape whenever a new trend arises.

If you have experience in eyebrow treatments and you already have a go-to style, then you can consider the permanent eyebrow tattoo. The long-term result is also helpful for women who only want to invest a one-time cost.
